On 11 May 1916, Albert Frederick Witte married Edna Albertina Louisa Kowalke in Fort Atkinson, Jefferson, Wisconsin. (The day after my birthday, granted it was 62 years before I was born, but it still tickles me. 11 May is also Edna’s birthday! I’m not sure I would want to be married on my birthday but maybe it makes that day twice as wonderful.)
Albert was born 3 Aug 1888 in Town Oakland, Jefferson, Wisconsin, the second son and child of William Witte (1861-1927) and Ernestine Louise Stoltzmann (1864-1945). He was employed at the Fort Transportation Co and Jamesway Division of the Butler Manufacturing Company. Albert was also a member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Edna Albertina Louisa Kowalke was born 11 May 1894 in Jefferson, Wisconsin, daughter of Emil Rudolph Kowalke (1867-1933) and Johanna Sabina Langholff (1868-1952). She too grew up in Jefferson, Wisconsin and was a member of St Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church and its Ladies Aid Society as well as the Fort Atkinson Garden Club.
The couple were married at St Paul’s on 11 May 1916. Here’s the wedding invitation:
I don’t have a lot of details about the wedding itself but I am blessed to have some beautiful pictures of Albert and Edna and of their wedding party!
Albert and Edna went on to have a long life together as evidenced by these pictures from their 50th wedding anniversary!
Albert passed away 2 years later on 2 Apr 1968 in Fort Atkinson, Jefferson Wisconsin, and Edna followed a few years later on 14 Apr 1974 also in Fort Atkinson. They are buried at Evergreen Cemetery in that town.
